Professor Stephen Tinsley
Chief Executive
Stephen is the Chief Executive of the Sustainable Development Research Centre. He has a doctorate in environmental and business management. He is responsible for the establishment of research and training partnerships to develop skills and transfer knowledge in environmental management and sustainable development. He has extensive experience in collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative data in environmental, management and social research projects.

Dr Sarah-Anne Munoz
Researcher
Sarah-Anne joined SDRC in March 2007 after completing an ESRC-funded PhD that investigated residential segregation and community formation in the urban environment. She also holds an MA (Hons, 1st class) in Geography and an MSc (distinction) in Applied Population Geography. She has training in both statistical and qualitative methods and has used both in a research context. Sarah-Anne also has experience of developing and delivering course material to undergraduates. Since joining SDRC Sarah-Anne has developed her research interest into social enterprise through work on the BEST Procurement Programme. She is currently developing research interests in the spatiality of social enterprise and its relationship with the alleviation of deprivation. She is also interested in how social enterprises can contribute towards sustainable rural communities. Sarah-Anne also has experience of working with Environmental/ Sustainability Management systems and is currently involved in developing such systems for HIE and Perth College.

Aileen Marshall
Research Assistant
Aileen has an MA(Hons) in Economics and European Studies from Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh. Her studies included a year spent at ICADE Business School in Madrid, Spain. Aileen has recently joined SDRC and is enjoying expanding her experience working on a variety of different projects.

Heather George
Research Assistant
Heather has a first class honours degree in Natural Science with Earth Science. She has been a research assistant with SDRC for eighteen months and during this time has worked on a variety of projects. These have included resource efficiency for businesses, waste management, ecological footprinting, the development of a business plan for a social enterprise, as well as gaining a knowledge of carbon offsetting. Since joining SDRC, Heather has gained experience in research methods, data handling, report writing and project management. She is currently studying distance learning for an MSc in Climate Change and Sustainable Development.

Tim Curtis
Research Associate
Tim started with a BSc in Geography which gave him a strong background in social science research methodology and has gone on to develope a strong legal background in the areas of environmental compliance, waste management, risk assessment and auditing.
Tim has over 10 years experience working as an environmental management consultant including extensive success at initiating and securing funding. For example, Tim initiated and managed a new R&D company, Cordah Research, which undertook contract research, development and implementation projects, especially those eligible for funding under the Landfill Tax Credits Scheme. Tim joined SDRC this year as a Research Associate. His particular interest is in undertaking research in the social aspects of sustainability. |

Karen Nash
Research Associate
Karen is a Research Associate, specialising in ecology and environmental management with SDRC. Following her first degree in Natural Sciences, she gained experience and qualifications in International Law and then went on to complete her research degree in Conservation Biology (Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology, University of Kent and The National Museum of Natural History in Paris, France). A full member of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management, she brings 12 years experience of a broad range of field and desk-based projects and collaborative programmes in environmental management, conservation and sustainability. She has worked with public, private and academic institutions. Her current research interests lie with ecology and natural systems, and include the use of ecosystems approaches in managing impacts on the marine and coastal environment, and further application to our understanding of the sustainability of economic and social systems, through comparative study. She has been involved in the development and teaching of postgraduate courses in biodiversity conservation, environmental impact assessment, environmental policy and law, integrated coastal zone management, human ecology, ecotourism, and permaculture. |
