Food & Sustainability PhD Studentship

The award will cover UK/European fees and provide a 36 month stipend from  £13,290 per annum  

Sustainable Development Research Centre (SDRC) an Associate Institute of UHI Millennium Institute is launching a new PhD programme focusing on understanding the impact of National and International food supply chains, their impact on producers, retailers, consumers, and local communities.

The programme of study will be an investigation into identifying significant contributions to total environmental impacts throughout the supply chain and identify how best to mitigate hotstops. The studentship provides an opportunity to work with six leading food and drink companies in the North East of Scotland.

The studentship is based at Forres, Moray. The start date is negotiable within 2009.  Applications are welcome from the areas of Food Technology, Environmental Science, Nutrition and Health, Agriculture, Business and Management.

Entry requirements:

The normal entry requirement is an Honours degree (min 2:1) of a recognised UK degree-awarding body, or postgraduate diploma, or a professional qualification recognised as being equivalent to an Honours degree.  Other qualifications or experience that demonstrates a candidate possesses appropriate knowledge and skills at Honours degree standard may be acceptable (e.g. a creditable publication of research papers at the appropriate level).  Any student enrolling will be required to meet the admissions criteria for the programme.
